Today GGG teased three new orbs for the Siege of the Atlas expansion. That means I get to do what I do best: wild speculation.
Clearly, these are variants of the Exalted Orb, Chaos Orb, and Orb of Annulment, but what do they do? The last group of atlas orbs, which dropped from the conquerors, added influence and an affix from that specific pool to an item. In addition to Exalted Orbs, we also get Chaos and Annulment Orbs that will create new and interesting interactions with influence.
The most obvious guess, for the Exalted Orb, is that it adds influence and a mod similar to the conqueror Exalted Orbs. Since there is only one new Exalted Orb, it may add a random influence from the pool of new influence types added to the game. Based on my earlier speculation on Twitter that we will get 5 bosses, 4 guardian-type bosses, and one pinnacle boss, my guess would be that we are getting somewhere between two to four new influence types. Based on the fact that there are two dominant colors, red and blue, we may only be getting two new influences.
The Chaos Orb is more interesting as the conquerors did not have chaos orb versions. My guess would be that it simply rerolls a rare item guaranteeing a new influence type and modifier, similar to how the veiled chaos orb works. This would be really powerful, my guess would be to mitigate the power, it can only be used on rare uninfluenced items, it will allow you to gain influence, get an influenced mod, but you reroll the item, and can not use it again.
Finally, the Orb of Annulment is an interesting case. What if this was how you could remove influence from an item? It can be used on an item of one of the new influences, and it will remove a random influenced modifier and the influence with it. How would it work if it has multiple influenced affixes? Finally, how does it work if an awakener orb was used and it had multiple influences? It could also be used on an influenced item to remove one random, non-influenced modifier, leaving the influenced modifiers alone? This would very strong, and I suspect it’s not the case, but it may be.
What do you think these orbs will be? Let me know in the comments if you have other ideas.
